Unit of GIS Geographic Information Systems & Digital Humanities
The Geographic Information Systems and Digital Humanities Unit (SIGyHD) aims to support research through innovation, interdisciplinarity, and a cross-cutting approach. Its scope focuses on in the application of Geographic Information Technologies—such as GIS, remote sensing, and digital mapping—to research projects in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The SIGyHD Unit provides the CCHS and the research groups within its Institutes with a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multi-criteria framework that is competitive and grounded in innovation, cross-cutting approaches, and knowledge transfer. To achieve this, the unit delivers interoperable solutions in the development of scientific projects based on geoinformation, web cartography, and digital spatial humanities. Its scope of application ranges from information sciences and cultural geography to the latest technologies for databases, spatial queries and analysis, visualisation, 3D modelling, web mapping, location-based services (LBS), Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), and the geosemantic web.
